Backpacking
Travel options and Tips
If you are on a tight budget but want to travel the world then
backpacking may be an option for you. Backpacking is a fun and
adventuress way to see cities, countries or even the world. If you
are thinking of undertaking a backpacker trip there is a number of
things you need to be aware of. Here is a list of items and sites to help you with
the planing of your trip.
Research your Destination
|
This one of the most important steps before booking any of your
travel arrangements. You need to ensure you research about
the location and the surrounds. The best way to do this is
by purchasing the latest guide books like Lonely Planet or to
research it on the net via websites (including our site), forums and blogs. You
also need to consider weather, best places for groups or single
travellers, events or festive occasions. Tips: Check local
currencies and Visa requirements |
Booking Accommodation
|
Once you have completed
your research and decided on you destination it is time to look
at your accommodation options. We recommend that you book
your accommodation in advance as this will mean you are
guaranteed a bed when you arrive. When considering where
to stay you need to consider what it is you would like to be
near (beach, city, club, pubs, country etc). We recommend Hostelbookers as they have youth hostels and cheap accommodation
in over 2500 Destinations. |
Getting There
|
T
here is many different ways to get to your destination or
destinations. It is always a wise idea to purchase a
return ticket so if worst case you run out of funds you can
always get home. If you are looking for discounted flights
and budget airlines then visit Best Flights for great deals.
They also have great deals for Bus travellers.
For those who enjoy travelling by Rail checkout
Trainticket.com.au for worldwide Rail passes and information. |
Keeping in touch
|
When travelling time can get away and keeping in touch with
loved ones and friends becomes harder and harder. With
this in mind there is many easy options for the backpacker to
keep in contact. Mobile phones are great as you can make
or receive calls as well as SMS text messages. Web mail is
also a very popular method of communication with internet cafe's
spread across the world all you need is a web mail account
either via your ISP provider or one of the many free services
like Google and Yahoo offer. If you are looking to use pay
phones we recommend that you purchase a phone card as these may
give you access to cheaper rates. |
Travel insurance
|
Travel insurance is a area that is sometimes overlooked and its
importance played down. This is one of the top
recommendations we have is to take out some form of travel
insurance. There is many different levels of insurance
available so ensure you find a policy that suits your
requirements. We recommend iTrek as they have different
levels of cover to suit all budgets and travel needs. |
Getting around location
|
There is many modes of transport to get
around and beyond your destination. If you look at car
hire you need ensure you are aware of any local licence
requirements and any road laws that may be different than your
home location. As car hire can be an expensive option you
could look at moped's, bicycles, local bus/train/tram service,
taxis or by foot. We have often found trams to be a great
way to get around as they normally part of the local history. For
campervan rentals we recommend Hippie camper rentals as they
have budget priced campervans that are equipped with all the
comforts of home down to the fridge
(Only limited locations). |
